Year-end calendars for March and December closers in Yamagata

Sample timing for interim testing, inventory counts, and report signing for companies closing in March or December.

Wall calendar used for planning year-end close dates

March year-ends still dominate among our Yamagata manufacturing clients; December closers are more common among subsidiaries of overseas groups. Both can work — if the audit calendar is drawn before the busy season starts.

March closers

Interim testing in November or early December keeps January free for client closing. Inventory observation often sits in late March. Draft reports in mid-May allow board packs before June shareholder meetings. Snow and road closures still affect plant visits in inland Yamagata, so we build a weather buffer into fieldwork weeks.

December closers

January inventory counts compete with holiday staffing. We schedule confirmations before the New Year break when possible. Parent reporting deadlines in Europe or North America often sit earlier than Japanese statutory filing, so group reporting and local statutory opinions may need staggered delivery dates written into the engagement letter.

Share your preferred board meeting date when you request an engagement letter. The audit calendar starts from that meeting and works backward — not the other way around.
